Import Demo Content for Wide Range free theme

I am trying to create a slider for the front page so I clicked on “Import Demo Content”. It is giving me an error message: This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number.
Do I need to have this content in order to post a picture on the slider? I do not see a place to insert the picture.

The XML file of demo data is not available for free theme.
To display slider:
1. Create 3 pages for slider from Pages -> Add New
2. Add title, description and set Featured Image (This featured image will be your slider image)
3. Go to the Appearance -> Theme Options Panel -> Slider Section -> Select slider pagesPlease check the documentation
