Has anyone else had issues with GraceTheme’s Team shortcode now working to display members?

I can’t get a straight answer from support via email.

Here’s an email thread I have had from a previous support submission.

    Subject
Team page has title ‘Archives’ instead of menu title ‘Aztec Team’.
    Comment or Message
It is weird that this is happening. On the team page, I have NO clue where the page title name ‘Archives’ is coming from. The menu title is ‘Aztec Team’.
How can I get the menu page title to display?

    Here’s my response.

    Support,

I sent a password reset for your account.

    Here is my response:

    Support,

You have screwed up the page. This used your theme shortcut to display all team members.

I had a test page set up for the 4 col display and it showed the title just like yours.

The Aztec Team link should appear like this link but with the article title, not “Archives” as tge attached screenshots show.

Seriously, where the heck is the “Archives” text coming from?

    Here is their response:

Basically this is a Our Team custom post type page, that’s why the Archive text is displaying.

You need to cray a separate page for Our Team and add the shortcode of Team Member

    Here is my response:

    Support,

This makes absolutely no sense. Your shortcut works fine for displaying all Team records. But Team members records are active not archived. Page titles should ALWAYS be what the administrator has indicated in the menu options.

Whoever is developing and managing your themes should truly consider the desires of the website administrators and not make decisions based on what they think should be done.

Again, I am still committed to standardizing on Grace Theme themes but I have having to work around poor logic.

I’ll just hide the page title using CSS & insert a title in the page. Again, another ‘unnecessary’ workaround.

FYI, I was an applications developer for over 30 years as well as I had created my own CMS back in the late 1990’s before using Open Source CMS platforms like Joomla and WordPress. I am not an amateur!

    Here is their response:

Ok, I will check with our development team

    Here is my response:

    Support,

I totally deleted the Aztec Team menu link and the page. I recreated it and assigned it to the menu. But it does NOT display all the team members. I’m not sure what your developers did to try and ‘force’ anything but I checked the functions.php & the custom-functions.php pages which have been unchanged from the originals. I didn’t know where else to look or what file your developers may have altered when they logged in. FYI, I would highly recommend that developers give a ‘short’ explanation of what they did to clients like me.

FYI, this shortcode was working fine previously.

    Here is their response:

You can also use Team Member plugin to display team members in your website
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/team-members/

    Here is my last response:

So let me get this straight. You have a theme that you developed. You included shortcodes that could be used within your theme. The shortcodes are not working properly. And NOW you want me to install a separate Team Member plugin to display members when I HAD this working just fine before I notified you about the ‘Archive’ title, someone from your support logged in, did something, and now it doesn’t work?

Let me guess. Someone on your team who logged in, screwed up the code so it doesn’t work and now you’re trying to cover it up by pushing another plugin.

I suggest this entire thread be elevated to at least a Tier 3 level with someone who knows what the hell they are doing.

I’m positive this is going to piss off the support team but why should they be the only ones to be pissed off. I’m pissed off as the page was working fine except for the insane title being ‘Archived’ when the menu title was ‘Aztec Team’.

I give GraceThemes support an A+ for response times but a C- for not explaining the problem with a solution so I can ‘learn’ their system to fix things on my own. I give them an A- for logging in and fixing issues but this one just blew my mind that they would eventually throw up their hands and tell me to get another plugin to accomplish what their Team shortcode was doing.

FYI, I was an application developer for 30 years & I’ve been developing websites for 20+ years. I am NO novice but I do not like ‘reverse-engineering’ themes and plugins. That is up to the developers to provide products that do what they say they will do.
