Hi Sonja,
To setup the photo gallery in homepage
- Add some photo from Photo Gallery -> Add New
- Go to Appearance » Theme Options » Sections » Section 8
- Use this shortcode to display photo gallery: [photogallery filter=”true” show=”8″]

- Go to Settings -> Reading -> Front page displays
- Click on radio button of Your latest posts
